There are a large range and variety of animals in Park Wood.  This is thought to be partly due to the prior coppicing of the wood ensuring a diverse environment for animals and the plants they eat. Now coppicing has recommenced, various studies are being carried out into the animals populations.

  • Dormice which are relatively rare in England and feed on hazel and small insects which are attracted by the wild flowers.
  • A scarce butterfly called the Dingy Skipper lives in one of the pastures adjoining the wood, its caterpillars feeding on birdsfoot trefoil.
  • Several bat species reside in Park Woods, particularly in hollow trees or under loose bark.
  • Muntjac Deer
