Malvern is the proud home of the Morgan Motor Company, one of the few remaining British car manufacturers. Famous for their handbuilt sports cars, the factory is still located in a modest 'shed' on Pickersleigh Road in Malvern Link. During the summer of 2009 the company celebrated its centenary, and over 3,200 Morgan cars assembled at during the festival. With around 600 cars made each year, and only some 30,000 in circulation, there is an approximately 12 month waiting list for would-be owners!
The company has a fascinating history, but is still owned and run by the Morgan family. With modern yet retro models still built around an ash frame, the cars retain much of the original Morgan DNA and charm.
The factory can be visited by prior appointment, and often Morgans are seen being test driven around town and the surrounding countryside. In addition, there are usually owners passing through, so seeing a Morgan parked up in a local hotel carpark is also not unusual.
