Arthur Benson is probably most famous for setting Elgar's music to words in Land of Hope and Glory.  However, he was an acclaimed author and poet in his own right and was the Cambridge tutor of Mallory the mountaineer, having had an interest in climbing himself before an accident in the Alps in 1896. Although he didn't live in Malvern, he is known to have spent holidays in and around the area, including the Cotswolds, Vale of Evesham and elsewhere in Worcestershire.  He kept detailed diaries of his life from 1898, running to some 3-4 million words.
